Hi, We are The Ariel Project!
Our goal is to help get rid of the stigma around mental health, starting in our community but eventually spreading our message around the world. We started this campaign in memory of Ariel. Ariel was a caring, smart, young girl that passed away to soon. Ariel suffered from Bipolar disorder and depression, and she committed suicide at age 14, on April 13th, 2015. Although Ariel went through severe physical and emotional torture during her short life, she always tried to remain positive. Ariel enjoyed cheerleading, singing, and spending time with her friends and family. Ariel also loved all things pink and girly, including fashion and makeup. Ariel began her mental health journey when she started middle school. Although twelve years old seems very young to be dealing with depression, the problems in Ariel's life seemed to pile up. Ariel went through different treatment facilities but without the support of everyone in her life, she never got to truly recover. As one of Ariel's oldest friends, I will admit that the important friends in Ariel's life let our ignorance about the affects of mental illness affect the way we treated her in her time of need, myself included. Here at The Ariel Project we are here to spread Ariel's story, help those in need, and teach everyone the importance of understanding the symptoms of someone with mental illness and what you can personally do to help.
Thank you so much!
